Who is Granny Bard?

A cousin of mine recently said, ”Barrie, put accounts of your walks on your blog, and tell us what you see.” Wow – she reads my blog. Fantastic. Bless her. In fact, I have put a walk or two on here already.

OK, I am a Christian, as well as an author, writer, retired dentist, retired bookseller, husband, father, etc. etc. What a wonderful world. I used to believe in evolution, but the more I look around me, at birds, flowers, insects, mammals, and so many more, the more I see creation, the more I enjoy it. I am sure evolutionists enjoy it greatly too, and I admire their faith in evolution!

Trees, fields, footpaths, narrow lanes, birds, insects…. these are a part of our everyday walks. And the occasional puzzle. We walk Granny Bard’s Lane. So who was Granny Bard? Nobody seems to know, but it’s been so named since the 19th century or earlier. The most likely explanation is that Bard is a corruption of Bird, which is a local name. Lots of birds along Granny Bard Lane.
